Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)

The neck is the support structure for the head and with that the foundation for the face. As people age, the skin on the neck and jaw area loses its strength and begins to sag. Often, an accumulation of fat beneath the skin or muscles in the neck occurs and dramatizes the effect. These changes cause the chin and jawline to lose its straight, youthful angle occasionally causing a person to look overweight or older than they truly are.

A platysmaplasty, the technical term for a cosmetic neck lift, can restore the neck, chin, and jawline to a lifted and youthful appearance. The procedure produces a proportioned chin; a sharp, flat surface that joins the neck to the chin and a crisp jawline for a woman’s rejuvenated beauty and grace and a man’s rugged masculinity.

During the neck lift procedure, Dr. Shapiro not only removes the excess fat and skin from beneath the chin and neck but he will also tighten the muscles of the neck, manipulating them into a strong foundation for a straight, angular jawline. A patient’s skin elasticity determines where the incision will be placed. For patient’s with good elasticity the small incision can be hidden beneath the chin, for patient’s with poor skin elasticity, the incision will be placed behind the ears.

The procedure is generally painless and patients typically see minimal bruising and swelling after the platysmaplasty surgery. Patients are usually back to socializing after a week or so.
