What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses very thin needles to create micro-injuries to the treated area. Your body responds to these wounds by jumpstarting its natural healing process and producing fresh collagen and elastin. These proteins improve the appearance of surface imperfections to restore or maintain a youthful and smooth complexion.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

When you arrive at the Paradise Valley Skin Klinic™ for your microneedling procedure, one of our experienced aestheticians will guide you to your private treatment room. Before beginning the microneedling process, we will review your aesthetic concerns, discuss your anticipated results, and outline exactly what to expect during your appointment.

From there, we will apply a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort. We will then use our microneedling pen to gently puncture the skin using sterile, ultra-fine needles to create small, micro-skin channels into the skin's surface. This process will stimulate your body’s natural healing response and promote the production of fresh collagen. This treatment can be combined with PRP for optimal results.

After Treatment

After your microneedling treatment, you will not be able to apply make-up for 12 hours and will need to stay out of the sun’s rays for approximately 2 days. You will experience slight inflammation in the treatment area, though it will diminish within a few hours. Skin may remain pink for up to two days.

The Results

Your microneedling results depend on the production of new collagen and elastin. As such, they will emerge gradually over a period of several weeks.

Most of our Scottsdale clients need between two to four sessions spaced about one month apart for optimal results. From there, you will only need maintenance visits every three, six or twelve months, depending on the quality of your skin and your aesthetic goals.

Microneedling FAQ

Is microneedling safe for all skin types?

How long is the recovery time after a microneedling treatment?

What is the difference between microneedling and laser treatments for skin rejuvenation?

While both microneedling and lasers aim to improve skin texture and reduce imperfections, microneedling uses fine needles to stimulate collagen production, making it a gentler option for most skin types. Unlike lasers, microneedling works well for sensitive or darker skin tones and has less risk of hyperpigmentation.

Can microneedling help with large pores?

Yes, microneedling is highly effective in reducing the appearance of large pores. The procedure stimulates collagen production in the skin, which helps tighten the skin and minimizes pore size, leaving the skin looking smoother and more even.

How soon will I see results from microneedling?

Results from microneedling begin to appear gradually, with noticeable improvements in skin texture and tone within 3-4 weeks as collagen and elastin production increases. For optimal results, multiple sessions are recommended, typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Is microneedling safe for all skin types?

Yes, microneedling is safe for most skin types and tones. Unlike laser treatments, which may pose risks for darker skin tones, microneedling is a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of skin types, including sensitive skin.

How long is the recovery time after a microneedling treatment?

Recovery after microneedling is minimal. Most patients experience redness and mild swelling for a few hours to two days. You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment, though it’s recommended to avoid sun exposure and makeup for 12-24 hours post-treatment.
