A surgical facelift is not for everyone. Dr. Shapiro will help you decide if this is the best course of action. Dr. Shapiro may recommend a non-surgical facelift in Scottsdale to correct jowls, loose skin, facial aging or other issues for patients who do not require surgical intervention. Combining therapeutic toxins like Botox with dermal fillers, fat transfer and laser therapy can, in many cases, produce the results of facelift surgery without incisions or invasive action.

Dr. Shapiro uses these procedures to reduce signs of aging in the face and neck. This procedure is highly customizable to address the unique needs and goals of each patient.

Depending on the personalized treatments, a non-surgical approach can do the following:

  • Smooth fine lines and wrinkles
  • Fill in deep wrinkles
  • Improve sun damaged skin
  • Rejuvenate tired-looking or dull skin
  • Provide a lifting effect to the midface and forehead

There are no age restrictions for this procedure and very minimal risks. Good candidates are patients who have realistic expectations and want to improve mild to moderate facial aging without surgery.

Therapeutic Toxins

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a very effective and safe treatment that temporarily corrects wrinkles such as crow’s feet, frown lines and smile lines.

There are two types of facial wrinkles: wrinkles that occur when the skin relaxes naturally with age (static wrinkles) and wrinkles that are caused by muscles of expression (dynamic wrinkles). Botox and the similar Dysport can correct dynamic wrinkles. This treatment is injected into facial muscles responsible for wrinkles. The toxin blocks nerves, interrupting brain signals that cause movement.

The skin is thus allowed to heal while the toxin is effective and future wrinkling can be prevented or alleviated.

Our experienced Nurse Injectors never leaves patients looking like a stereotypical Botox patient who is unable to make facial expressions. They prefer to use Botox along with other techniques to do more than simply relax muscles but also lift the eyebrows, improve facial contours and rejuvenate the face.

Botox results typically last for 3-6 months. Dysport injections, however, tend to last longer.

Soft Tissue Fillers

Facial aging is also due to decreased collagen production. Collagen is a protein found naturally in the body that supports healthy skin, but it begins to dissipate with age. This procedure may use dermal fillers to substitute for lost collagen and restore volume to areas of the face. Dr. Shapiro uses these powerful fillers in combination to treat your individual case for the perfect non surgical facelift.

Brand Composed of... Benefits
Juvederm Hyaluronic Acid Volumizes Hydrates skin Produces a natural, youthful glow
Restylane Hyaluronic Acid Same as Juvederm Naturally occurring hyaluronic acid does not cause allergic reactions
Radiesse Calcium Activates growth of natural collagen Fills deep wrinkles and folds, especially around the mouth and nose Calcium is naturally absorbed
Sculptra Synthetic material used in dissolving surgical stitches Fills hollows beneath eyes and in the cheeks Corrects folds around the mouth and nose (nasolabial) Corrects jowls Can last for 2-3 years

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy can be very effective at tightening the skin with no downtime or incisions. Dr. Shapiro uses ReFirme Laser during this non-surgical procedure to active the body’s production of collagen. Skin also retracts for a natural tightening effect.

Laser treatments are gentle and work by targeting fractions of skin using radiofrequency energy and infrared light. This heats elastic tissues in the skin, causing them to retract and tighten the skin. Other tissue is left unaffected.

Fat Transfer

Fat grafting offers the same function as dermal fillers, although it uses the patient’s own body fat that is harvested from areas such as the hips, stomach or thighs. Patients who choose this procedure not only have fat removed from one area; they also benefit from improved contour and volume in an area that needs it. If you want to learn more about all the different fat transfer procedures, click on the link. Fat may be injected into deep wrinkles, hollowed cheeks, beneath the eyes, the lips or anywhere else that has lost volume.

This procedure offers very long-term or even permanent results to completely rejuvenate these areas of the face. Make sure you come visit us here in our Scottsdale, Arizona location for more information.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dear Patients,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the reopening of my practice for both surgical and non-surgical services on May 1, 2020. As per the governor Ducey's executive order on April 22, 2020, elective surgery has been allowed to proceed, with appropriate precautions taken by health care professionals to ensure continued vigilance against the spread of Covid-19.

Our office staff and the staff of Paradise Valley Cosmetic Surgery Center and Surgical Recovery Center have proactively taken necessary precautions to meet strict criterion for health providers according to the state of Arizona. These include necessary patient screening for Covid-19, strict protocols for cleaning offices and treatment rooms, adequate PPE, and continued social distancing. As before, waiting areas will have minimal capacity, and friends and family members should not accompany one into offices or treatment areas.

With great anticipation we welcome you back to the practice, and wish you all continued health and safety.

Sincerely, Daniel Shapiro MD, FACS
