Hand Rejuvenation: How to Turn Back the Hands of Time

It’s been said that the two strongest indicator of aging are the hands and the neck. Neck lifts are fairly common in the world of plastic surgery, but how do you turn back the hands of time, literally? If you suffer from age spots, protruding veins, and thinning skin, there are hand rejuvenation procedures available that will leave you hands looking like they did 20 years ago – smooth, healthy, and strong.

Over the years, unprotected sun exposure causes age spots that are difficult to camouflage. The skin of the hands significantly thins as we age, along with the loss of soft tissue and muscle volume making hands appear much older. As a result, prominent veins on top of the hands become more apparent, giving rise to skeletal appearing fingers that look quite aged. So how do you correct this and get back the beautiful hands you once had?

Well, making hands appear younger is a twofold process. Soft tissue fillers, such as Radiesse®, Sculptra®, or fat injections add youthful volume effectively hiding veins and increasing the thickness of the skin. Volume enhancement is coupled with IPL treatments (FotoFacial®) to soften brown spots and provide improved skin texture. IPL treatments are non-invasive light based therapies that erase skin damage without disrupting the skin surface and subsequently require no downtime. IPL treatments improve skin texture and irregular pigmentation on areas such as the hands, and are often used to soften the texture and color of recent surgical scars. Specifically, pigmented lesions such as freckles, sunspots, and age spots are treated, along with rosacea, spider veins, and skin imperfections caused by sun damage. The results are hands that not only look younger, but also appear more vibrant.
