Summer Bodies Are Made In The Winter

Are you swimsuit ready? You might be thinking that summer is months away, and you have plenty of time to get into shape. Sometimes a healthy diet and exercise are not enough to get rid of excess fat, which tends to accumulate around the waistline, back, buttocks and arms. These stubborn pockets of fat can be a source of embarrassment and keep you from feeling confident. If you’re considering liposuction to help get your body ready for summer, you’ll want to get started to give yourself plenty of time for recovery.

Liposuction is a procedure that breaks up fat beneath the skin and removes it through a hollow instrument called a cannula that is attached to a powerful vacuum. During the procedure, small, thin tubes are inserted through very small incisions in the skin. In most cases, a local anesthesia will first be used to numb the area and a large amount of anesthetic with epinephrine and Lidocaine will be injected into the fatty tissue.

The recovery period for body sculpting depends on the area that is treated, and whether the procedure is combined with other surgeries. Recovery time may vary, but here is an overview of what you can expect following your surgery:

1-2 Weeks After Liposuction
It’s common to feel pain and soreness after your anesthesia wears off. The pain will be tolerable and controlled with a prescription pain medication. After the first week, your sutures will be removed. You will be asked to limit your activity and you will wear compression garments for four to six weeks to control swelling and aid in the healing process.

4 Weeks After Liposuction
Your incisions will be healing and the major swelling will be gone. You can begin doing normal household activities and moderate exercise. If you experience increased pain, adjust your activity level accordingly.

5 Weeks and Beyond
Five weeks after your surgery you will be able to return to your normal activities, bruising will no longer be noticeable. By the sixth week the swelling will be improved and you will have a good idea of how your permanent results will look.
