Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Fat transfer to the breasts is an increasingly popular alternative procedure to traditional breast implants. Fat transfer to the breasts adds natural fullness, firmness, and contour to the breasts that you receive with implants. As your own tissue is being utilized, however, the breasts look, feel, and move more naturally than with the use of implants. Fat transfer to the breasts can generally increase the breast size by one or two cups.

Besides offering a more natural aesthetic, fat transfer to the breasts lacks many of the risks associated with traditional breast implants. Because the tissue comes from the body and can be precisely matched, your body won’t think it’s an implant. There is no risk of future removal of the implant, implant capsular contracture, implant leak, or implant asymmetry. Fat transfer to the breasts is also becoming more common for breast reconstruction in patients that have lost breast tissue or their complete breasts as a result of breast cancer.

For the procedure, fat is harvested from areas that generally seem to collect fat such as the thighs, abdomen, and knees; this fat tends to be the most resistant and robust, making it ideal for the transfer. The fat is then purified and precisely transferred to the breasts through very small incisions below, into, and above the pectoralis muscle. Dr. Shapiro’s talented hand is careful to avoid the breast tissue during this procedure as to not disrupt future mammograms.
