Wrinkles, Spots, Fine Lines, Oh My!

Labor Day weekend is nearly here – time to celebrate with a BBQ, picnic, or a lingering three-day weekend. Have the long summer days taken a toll on your skin? If you’re like many, sun exposure over the last few months has left your skin looking dull and dry. You may also be seeing signs of more significant damage like fine lines, sun spots, or gasp, even wrinkles!

Skin problems are a common complaint as we transition into fall. This is the time when the result of less-than-stellar skin protection can really be seen. As a tan begins to fade, fine lines, wrinkles, spots, and broken capillaries become much more apparent.

Fortunately, there is much you can do to correct the look and feel of your skin and reverse signs of skin damage. A variety of restorative treatments combined with a proactive skincare regime can have you looking refreshed and renewed safely and effectively.

Faded, Dull Skin
Too much sun exposure can certainly lead to skin looking less than glowing. A microdermabrasion can be a quick solution for exfoliating skin and improving the production of collagen and elastin – the result is a return to more youthful-looking skin.

Spots
Spots can make a rather surprising appearance at the end of summer especially as a tan fades. Sure, a good concealer can minimize these pigmented areas, but a non-invasive light-based therapy can literally erase skin damage without disrupting the skin surface. This means no downtime and the erasing of freckles, sun spots, and spider veins. Three to five treatments are needed to see optimum results.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles
An alphahydroxyacid peel is a good choice for thickened or sun-damaged skin. Using a 30 percent concentration of alphahydroxyacid, a trained esthetician can minimize fine lines while also tightening skin and evening out pigmentation. For more aggressive treatment for wrinkles, peels that use trichloroacetic acid is an option. Typically, only one to three treatments are necessary for an overall smoother appearance.

Sun Damaged Skin on the Neck and Chest
Fraxel is the latest treatment for sun damage that utilizes a fractionated laser to treat wrinkles, skin laxity, enlarged pores, stretch marks, age spots, and other skin irregularities. While it can be used on the face, it can also effectively treat sun damage on the neck, chest, arms and legs. Unlike ablative laser treatments which can require prolonged recovery time and post-procedure redness, downtime with Fraxel is minimal.
