The Latest in Facial Fillers

Aging, sun exposure, smoking, and even years of muscle movement all contribute to facial wrinkles and sagging. The good news is that there are a number of facial fillers, also known as injectables that can provide temporary to long-lasting solutions to maintain a youthful, beautiful appearance.

Administered through tiny injections and targeting specific areas of the face, facial fillers can be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, augment the lips, and even minimize dark circles under the eyes.

With a variety of filler options available, it’s important to first consult with a qualified doctor or specialist who can work with you to determine the best choice for you.

Here are some of the most common fillers used in the United States:

Botox Cosmetic ®
Botox is well-known as the filler used to reduce lines and wrinkles in the upper regions of the face by blocking muscle movement. Derived from the Botulinum toxin type A, Botox is commonly used to smooth and prevent frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. Results last three to six months.

Juvaderm™
Used to temporarily correct moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, Juvaderm™ is frequently used in nasolabial folds and crow’s feet. It’s also used to add volume to lips, depressions around the mouth, and even earlobes. Results last six to 12 months.

Dysport®
Dysport® is a Botulinum toxin Type A that is similar to Botox Cosmetic ®. Used outside the U.S. since 2001, it’s a relatively new treatment here that is reported to provide longer-lasting results. Dysport® is used to treatment wrinkles of the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes and mouth.

Restalyne®
Restalyne® is a soft tissue dermal filler that adds volume to the lips, earlobes, and hollows beneath the eyes. It’s also used to correct facial wrinkles. Unlike Botox® that relaxes underlying muscles, Restalyne® is a hyaluronic acid that restores fullness to the skin. Patients often have both Restalyne® and Botox® placed at the same time for more impactful results. Restalyne® injections typically last four to six months.

Evolence®
Made from natural collagen, Evolence® integrates and supports existing collagen – adding structure and volume to moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds. Evolence® injections offer immediate results and last up to 12 months.

Radiesse®
Radiesse® consists of calcium-based microspheres that support and stimulate growth of the body’s own collagen. With results lasting up to two to three years, it’s often used to fill acne scars, nasolabial folds, as well as to rejuvenate the hands by filling areas between prominent veins.

Sculptra®
Another very long-lasting soft tissue facial filler, Sculptra® triggers the body to produce its own collagen to fill lines and wrinkles. Typical treatment consists of three sessions over several months to rejuvenate areas of the face where fat and bone volume are decreasing because of the aging process. Sculptra® is commonly used on the cheekbones, along the jawline, beneath the eyes, the nasolabial folds, and around the mouth.
