Which Real Housewives Star Got Fat? RHOC Star Tells All

Which Real Housewives star got a fat transfer to the face and looks AMAZING? Why, it’s none other than Vicki Gunvalson, the 51-year old star of the Real Housewives of Orange County. Last season, Vicki revealed that she had several plastic surgery procedures including a facelift, rhinoplasty, cheek reconstruction, and a chin implant. But one thing she didn’t mention until this year’s Watch What Happens Live reunion show was that she had fat from her sides transplanted to her face during her facelift procedure. If you watched the reunion episode last week, you’ll agree that Vicki looks better than ever!

We wanted an expert’s opinion so we asked Dr. Daniel Shapiro to take a peek at her before and after images. Even he was impressed with Gunvalson’s natural-looking result. “After a patient has a facelift with fat transfer, it can take some time for the fat to settle,” Dr. Shapiro said. “Even though she may have had the procedure last season, you can really see the improvement to her face, it looks more youthful than ever and the skin texture has significantly improved,” he said.

On the show, Vicki said that at the end of last season her face was still swollen from the procedure which hid the final result. This year, she looks gorgeous and can’t help but rave about how fat transfer improved her look.

Fat Transfer is a procedure that has gained tremendous momentum in recent years – for its safety, versatility, and advanced scientific nature. For those who wish to address their own fat transfer options, Scottsdale fat transfer surgeon Daniel Shapiro, MD recommends a consultation at his practice, Shapiro Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

What is Fat Transfer Surgery?

Fat transfer is a procedure that involves the use of a patient’s own body fat as a soft tissue filler, for the purpose of adding volume and contour to specific areas of the body. This tissue can be taken from body areas where contour can be improved by removing fat – for example, the abdomen, knees, or thighs. The fat is then purified and re-injected into an area of the body in which the patient desires more fullness.

Face
Lips
Under-eye area
Browline
Chin/lower jaw
Wrinkles (as an alternative to Botox® or filler injectables)
Breasts
Women: As an alternative to an implant/lift combination or instead of primary breast augmentation
Men: As an alternative to pectoral implants Body
Buttocks (aka Brazilian butt lift)Advantages of Fat Transfer Surgery
Fat transfer poses many patient advantages. For many patients, it is a more cost-effective alternative to other facial injectables, because there is no risk of allergic reaction to one’s own fat, and often there is no need for future injections for volume. For those who wish to enhance the buttocks, the risk of infection is greatly reduced when using one’s own fat rather than a solid silicone implant. Finally, fat transfer surgery involves the placement of stem cells and growth factors into the augmented areas, which help skin quality and texture. This has been shown to make skin look younger and more vibrant, and can help areas of previous injury or scarring, such as in patients with a history of acne.
