Filler Series: Radiesse
The many non-surgical options available to treat wrinkles and fine lines can be overwhelming. The goal of the “Filler Series” is to better inform you so that you can decide what the right treatment is for your needs. On the last post we talked about Evolence® and we will now go into detail about Radiesse®.
Radiesse® is a dermal filler that restores a naturally youthful look with a longer lasting result than standard soft tissue fillers. Radiesse® consists of calcium based microspheres that from a scaffold to support and stimulate growth of the body’s own collagen. Over time, the calcium0based fillers breakdown and are safely absorbed by the body without the risks of a permanent implant.
Radiesse® is commonly used to treat nasolabial folds, areas around the mouth, acne scars, and other soft tissue defects. It is also a very effective treatment for rejuvenating the hands by filling areas between prominent veins and providing soft tissue volume to skin that has been depleted by age and sun exposure. Optimal hand rejuvenation results are obtained when photorejuvenation (IPL) is added to Radiesse® injections to treat age spots that further diminish hand beauty. The injections are performed in Dr. Shapiro’s office with minimal local anesthetic and the results typically last up to two to three years.
