Buttocks Augmentation in the News

Last month, buttocks augmentation certainly made the news when Oneal Ron Morris was arrested for allegedly masquerading as a cosmetic surgeon to perform Brazilian butt lifts on unsuspecting patients. The most newsworthy, and frankly, rather shocking aspect of this particular case was that Morris had injected a patient’s buttocks with cement, mineral oil, Fix-a-flat, and Super Glue Apparently the Super Glue was used to seal the injection site!

The patient suffered from a host of complications following her ‘procedure’ including contracting the deadly superbug MRSA. Morris now faces charges of practicing medicine without a license and causing bodily harm.

While this story clearly indicates the reason for only working with an experienced and licensed cosmetic surgeon, it also has shed light on the topic of buttocks augmentation. Without a doubt, this procedure is gaining in popularity as more men and women want a shapely behind.

There are a variety of body contouring procedures that can create curvy buttocks including silicone buttocks implants, fat transfer (also known as a Brazilian Butt lift), and surgical buttock lift. All three can dramatically enhance the volume, shape, and firmness of the behind.

Silicone Buttocks Implants
Unlike breast implants that are shells with filler in them, buttocks implants are solid silicone. They are inserted through incisions made either between the buttocks or where the buttocks meet the back of the thigh. Implants can be placed either beneath the muscle or between the muscle and the fascia.

Brazilian Butt Lift
This procedure delivers a curvy, taut behind with minimally invasive surgery. Fat tissue is taken from other places in the body (often the abdomen), and injected above, below, or into the gluteal muscles for a smooth, curved look. This improves overall tightness of the skin around the buttocks while also minimizing sagging, dimpling, and wrinkles – giving the appearance of a full, attractive rear. Among the benefits of the Brazilian Butt Lift is that there are fewer complications than with implants and with less scarring.

Surgical Buttock Lift
A buttock lift is typically only for patients who have significant loss of elasticity in the skin in the buttocks area. This is most often due to weight loss or aging. The procedure is also performed to reduce the size of the buttocks and is often performed in conjunction with liposuction.
