Dysport® is a relatively new Botolinum toxin Type A for the injection treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles of the face. It has been marketed outside the U.S. for aesthetic use since 2001 and has been used to treat millions of patients.
Wrinkles occur due to the frequent use of the facial muscles that control expressions. When they repeatedly tighten over and over, wrinkles will result. Dysport®, when injected into the muscles that control expression, will stop the tightening of these muscles for up to four months.
There is reportedly longer longevity for this product and it is used similarly as Botox® Cosmetic for the treatment of the wrinkles of the forehead, between the eyebrows, around the eyes, the mouth, and in the neck. Injections can take place twelve weeks apart or as needed.
