How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is composed of deoxycholic acid, an organic chemical found in the human body. While the fat cells are dissolved with Kybella, healthy tissues remain unharmed. Once Kybella is placed in the predetermined areas of submental fat, the body will slowly dissolve and metabolize these cells.

What is Kybella?

Our Scottsdale Kybella treatment is an injectable that offers patients a noninvasive solution to their double chin. The cutting-edge treatment takes only minutes in the office, and the final results are dramatic.

After a brief series of Kybella injections, the jawline will have a slim, smooth, and tight appearance; without the risk or recovery time associated with surgery. Compared to more traditional treatments for submental fullness, such as liposuction, Kybella offers a quick, unique, and noninvasive technique for restoring a youthful appearance.

Are You a Candidate?

Anyone frustrated with the appearance of a double chin may benefit from Kybella.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be in good health
  • Have a full understanding of Kybella
  • Hold appropriate expectations for their results

The injectable is safe for all skin types and ethnicities. However, it may not be appropriate for patients with excess skin or scarring under the chin.

Your Kybella Consultation

To determine if Kybella is right for you, call our office for a complimentary consultation with one of our experienced nurse injectors.

During this appointment, the Kybella procedure will be explained in full, including the benefits and limitations of the treatment.

From there, we will perform a quick exam of your facial tissues and aesthetic goals will be discussed. If Kybella is determined to be the right technique for you, a personalized treatment plan will be created.

What to Expect During Your Procedure

In a comfortable, private treatment room, your Kybella injections will be administered under the chin. The procedure will take less than 30 minutes.

Most patients do not describe a Kybella treatment as painful, but for added comfort, a topical or local anesthetic will be administered. Depending on the volume of submental fat, between two and four sessions will be required for optimal results.

The Recovery

There are no restrictions or downtime required after a Kybella treatment. Patients can return to their normal activities the same afternoon. Exercise can be resumed within 48 hours, and makeup can be worn as usual. Although some redness and swelling is normal, patients can expect this to resolve within the first five to seven days.

Although the results from Kybella are not immediate, they will emerge gradually over a period of 4-6 weeks after treatment. As the fat cells are dissolved and metabolized by the body, the chin will become smooth and sculpted. The fatty tissue addressed with Kybella will not reform, making the final results permanent. Once the predetermined number of Kybella treatments have been completed, no further follow-up procedures are necessary to maintain the results.
