Expert Lip Augmentation

Some of us are born with shapely lips that diminish with age. Others are born with lips that are naturally thin. Either way, full and kissable lips are always in style and within reach through lip augmentation. Dr. Shapiro may enhance the lips using several means to help you obtain the lips you have always wanted and give you arguably the best lip augmentation Scottsdale has to offer.

Your Options

Dr. Shapiro uses several techniques and procedures to sculpt full lips for his patients. Here is a look at your options:

Lip Fillers

Soft tissue fillers may be used to achieve short-term enhancement of the lips. When we speak, people watch our lips, and fillers can help patients achieve greater self-confidence while enhancing their natural beauty. Our Phoenix lip fillers may be used to counteract thinning of the lips due to age or naturally thin lips. The team at Skin Klinic performs non-surgical lip enhancement as an alternative to surgery with the same great results. Our Certified Nurse Injectors have many years of experience, and patients may choose from several popular injectable fillers to achieve the desired results. Along with soft tissue fillers, Dysport or Botox may be used as well to ensure line-free lips. When used with Restylane, Evolence, or Juvederm, this can result in the dramatic rejuvenation of the lower face.

The shape and volume of the lips will be improved while the chin and jawline can appear more defined. Juvederm is one of the most popular fillers to enhance the lips. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound in the tissues that decreases with age. Juvederm may be injected into the lips to increase fullness with natural-looking results. Juvederm injections are not permanent, and patients will require maintenance injections every 6-12 months to maintain full lips. Restylane may also be used, although its effects do not last as long. Most patients require repeat sessions every 6-9 months to maintain results.

Fat Transfer

Dr. Shapiro may also use your body’s own fat as lip injections. This is a beautiful alternative to temporary fillers like Restylane and it tends to produce softer and more voluptuous lips. As another benefit, it is much more permanent with little or no maintenance required, unlike fillers, which require maintenance injections to maintain results. Fat is very unlikely to produce undesired side effects like uneven texture. Time and movement of the lips may cause the transplanted fat to dissipate over time. It may or may not be necessary to have another fat grafting procedure performed many years later.

This procedure involves using a syringe to remove fat from one area of the body — such as the buttocks, hips, abdomen or thighs — preparing it and reinjecting it into the lips with local anesthesia. This procedure may be an excellent option for patients who want to avoid the constant upkeep of fillers, although a second procedure may be necessary six months after the first procedure in order to get the best results in our lip fillers Scottsdale has to offer. This is done because a small amount of fat will not survive the initial grafting, and to avoid overcorrecting the lips during a single procedure.

Lip Implants

For patients who want permanent Scottsdale lip augmentation, implants may be a good option. Whether the lips have decreased in volume due to natural aging, genetics, or have always been thin, lip implants can permanently create full, kissable lips. Implants are different than injections because this procedure never needs to be repeated with a semi-soft synthetic implant permanently fixed inside of the lips. Implant material is made to mimic the natural tissue of the lips and it may be inserted in the lower, upper or both lips to achieve the desired results. This procedure requires small incisions that will be hidden in the corners of the lips. Implant size is customized to the patient’s goals and may look dramatic or natural, depending on what you want. Implants may even smooth away fine lines or wrinkles around the mouth. Most patients do not find the implants bothersome at all after healing. Dr. Shapiro will provide complete care instructions before the procedure is performed.

Alloderm Implants

Dr. Shapiro may use Alloderm lip implants during the lip enhancement surgery. These implants are made from engineered biomedical material that has been used safely for more than two decades. Alloderm is basically a collagen graft made from human tissue during a process that removes certain cells to prevent rejection from your body. This use of natural human tissue creates very realistic results that can increase the size of the lips to a mild or moderate extent.

Permalip Implants

Permalip implants are another option Dr. Shapiro may recommend. These implants are made from silicone to mimic the natural tissue. Permalip implants are soft with realistic texture and semi-solid to help the lips retain their natural shape. These implants have been proven safe through years of testing and they are available in many widths and lengths. They are also easy to remove for patients who later change their minds and want a larger or smaller implant.

Male Lip Enhancement

Most of our male patients who undergo our lip augmentation in Phoenix want to maintain their masculine mouths. This may require modifying the upper or lower lip, typically with less dramatic changes than our female Scottsdale clients request. Intervention is conservative to preserve the masculine features, which are not as soft or round as a woman’s. Men can benefit from the same procedures as women, such as fillers, implants or a fat transfer.

Lip Reduction

Some people with prominent lips feel self-conscious. In some cases, the lips are so large that they affect eating, drinking or speaking. For these patients, a lip reduction procedure may be an excellent choice. It reduces the size of the lips and may be performed if a previous procedure produced undesirable results. During surgery, Dr. Shapiro will reshape the lips so that they are proportionate to the rest of your features. Incisions will be hidden inside the lips. If there is an existing implant, it can be removed and replaced with fillers or a smaller implant.

Lip Lift

The lip lift is subtle, yet transformative procedure. It has the power to shorten the distance between the nose and the upper lip, exposing more of your teeth, and revealing more of the red portion of your upper lip. The result is a more youthful and balanced expression.

The procedure is ideal for Scottsdale men and women who have thin, inverted, or flat lips that produce a permanently angry or unhappy expression. For these individuals, fillers alone can’t achieve their ideal results – they must elevate their lips. Dr. Shapiro will perform your lip lift while you are awake.

The area will be completely numb so you won’t experience any pain or discomfort. During the 40-minute procedure, he will remove a small portion of tissue at the base of the nose. This will elevate the lips and reveal a more attractive smile. Because the incision is hidden beneath the nose, it will be virtually imperceptible once healed.
