Stem Cell Face Lift

A stem cell facelift is a term that has been given to the ability of making the face look younger by injecting fat in the face. It gives both youthful and voluptuous volume and can improve skin quality. In younger patients with not too much loose skin, it can be done without a classical facelift involving incisions. In older patients it is best combined with a surgical facelift that removes extra loose skin and repositions facial tissues. The fat transfer is used to fill the deflated volume and the combined surgical facelift and fat transfer takes “facial rejuvenation” to the next level. The combined results are truly unbelievable.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are found in all organisms, and are special because they are “progenitor cells”, which means that they can become whatever they want to. Fat also has human growth factors and as a result has the ability to repair damaged cells, like scarring from acne, and the changes in skin that happen with sun-damage and aging, such as enlarged pores and wrinkles. The amount of fat that survives with transfer completely depends upon technique, which is why you should always have a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon with much experience with fat transfer perform your surgery. When performed meticulously, transferred fat should “take” about 50% to 70% of the volume.

Generally you can see the final result at 6 months, and if more needs to be re-injected, it is done at 6 months to a year.

SO WHERE IS FAT USED WHEN TRANSFERRED TO THE FACE?

Wherever it is needed.
Most common places:

  1. Beneath the eyes to fill hollows, and to help treat dark circles. This happens with age, or people are born this way. Also this can result from overly aggressive previous cosmetic surgery
  2. To fill the cheeks that have become sunken with age.
  3. To fill the temples that become hollow in just about everyone after the age of 40.
  4. To fill the lips and areas of volume loss around the mouth.
  5. To build up the jawline and chin, both of which can seem less strong with age.
  6. To build up the cheekbones. This almost always makes someone appear younger and more attractive in both men and women
  7. To fill deep folds around the mouth (nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth)
