How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpt was developed by Harvard Scientists and is a clinically proven procedure with thousands of happy patients that involves freezing fat cells without damage to your skin. A Vacuum pressure is used to pull targeted areas between cooling plates that over a period of an hour cause fat cells to begin a process called cryolipolysis. This breakdown of the fat cells is complete over a period of 2 to 4 months, during and after you will see a reduction in the size of the treated areas. There are no needles, and no lasers, and you can watch TV, be on your laptop, or listen to music for the hour during the procedure. After the treatment, you can return to normal activities.

Where can I use CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpt is great for the following areas:

  • Love handles (muffin tops)
  • Spare tires (abdominal fat)
  • Bra fat (back fat)
  • Newer applications are on the way like arms, neck etc.

How long is the procedure and how many will I need?

CoolSculpting is performed in “cycles” with each cycle taking an hour and covers one area. 60 minutes is required for the tissue to reach the correct temperature to cause the fat to shrink. Typically, separate cycles are needed for the upper and lower abdomen (each an hour), and each flank requires separate hour cycles.

When will I see change and how long do the results last?

You can expect to see the full results in about 4 months, as the body’s process of removing the fat is gradual and accomplished over time, so the complete changes aren’t immediate. Estimates are that the CoolSculpting® effects should last between 10-15 years, especially in those patients who maintain normal weight levels.

Does CoolSculpting hurt when it’s performed?

The initial few minutes of the process can be uncomfortable, but people do not require relaxation or pain medication. Within about 5 minutes you’ll lose sensation in the area and will easily be able to talk on the phone, read, use your computer, or watch TV. Some patients nap. Afterwards, a few patients may experience short temporary redness, bruising, or mild discomfort in the treated areas that resolves quickly.

Who is a good candidate for CoolSculpting?

You should be in good health in fairly normal weight, and simply have areas of fat that have proven hard to get rid of. Many CoolSculpting patients find that their results have given them incentive to begin new habits with diet and exercise that have resulted in further weight loss and enhanced self esteem.

How do I find out if CoolSculpting will work for me?

A personal consultation is necessary to decide whether CoolSculpting is a good option for you. You are invited to call our office and book an assessment appointment.
