There are many reasons that a woman might consider having her breast augmentation revised. Some common reasons for seeking a breast augmentation revision are:
Sometimes, it's just because you didn't like the results. No matter what the reason for wanting a revision on your breast augmentation, Dr. Shapiro can help you get the results you expect.
Consultation with Dr. Shapiro
The first step to getting the results you expect is to be completely open with Dr. Shapiro during your consultation. It may be helpful to bring in photographs or magazines with pictures that you like and think would look good on you.
During the consultation, Dr. Shapiro will calculate your skin quality, amount and location of internal and external scar tissue, and the position of the breast implants relative to the chest wall anatomy—that is, whether the implant was placed above or below the pectoral muscle. All of these factors will help him determine what your procedure will entail.
The secondary augmentation surgery can be similar to your first procedure, depending on what exact revision and results you expect.
In the case of changing the type, size, or projection of the implant, Dr. Shapiro will use a small incision on top of your old scar in order to remove the implant. In the case of changing saline to silicone, a larger incision will be made to accommodate inserting the implant. The size of a saline implant can be easily changed by adding or subtracting saline solution using a small incision.
Sometimes all that is needed is a revision to the breast implant pocket in the breast tissue. In this case, Dr. Shapiro will modify the pocket to better support the implant, resulting in a more even bustline.
In the case of poorly performed breast lifts, Dr. Shapiro can modify the shape and projection of the breast by creatively revising the original lift. He can also correct unsightly breast scars that cause self-confidence issues.
Recovery from an augmentation revision will be similar to recovery from your original surgery. It will most likely be easier, depending on what was revised.
Breast Augmentation revision costs generally vary depending upon what exactly is performed. This may be separate revision of the internal pocket, with or without removal of scar; replacement with new breast implants, or simple external scar revision. Dr. Shapiro will discuss your options after a thorough consultation and costs will be broken down for you to easily understand.
