Breast Lift With Implants

A breast lift with augmentation is a surgical procedure that draws the breasts into higher, more youthful position on the chest wall. It can also reduce the size of stretched areolae, remove stretch marks, and use implants for volume enhancement.

A breast lift (or mastopexy) is one of the most common ways to restore breasts damaged from breastfeeding or the effects of aging. Aesthetic cleavage and feminine self-confidence are also restored in the process.

Breast lift techniques
There are three techniques used for breast lifts: periareolar, vertical incision, and a full anchor pattern. Each technique can reduce the size of the areola if necessary, as well as pull the breast upward into a supported position so that more tissue fills the top hemisphere of the breast. The technique Dr. Shapiro uses during his Scottsdale breast lift with augmentation will be determined on an individual basis.

Crescent or Donut mastopexy augmentation
In this standard breast lift, a crescent shaped incision is made over the top of the areola. Skin is removed and an implant is inserted into the breast pocket to enhance volume. The incision is closed, effectively pulling the breast upward and into a lifted position.

Periareolar
The periareolar breast lift technique uses two incisions: one in a circle around the areola and another outside of that incision. The skin between the incisions is removed.

Vertical Incision
The vertical incision technique uses an incision around the areola and from the bottom of the areola in a vertical strip to the breast crease.

Full Wise Pattern (Keyhole or Anchor)
This technique is used for breasts with signs of severe sagging and skin laxity. It combines the above two techniques for a full mastopexy. The incision is made in the shape of an anchor, with a keyhole above the original areola for it to be lifted into a higher position on the breast, a vertical strip below the areola to the crease of the breast, and a horizontal incision along the crease of the breast.

Types of breast implants for augmentation
There are two types of implants used for breast augmentation: saline and silicone gel. The saline breast implant is made of a silicone shell that is filled with saline (saltwater) solution after it is inserted. A silicone gel implant is filled before insertion. Both implants have advantages and disadvantages, but for the most natural look and feel, Dr. Shapiro, a Scottsdale breast lift with augmentation surgeon, recommends a silicone gel implant.
