Breast Enlargement

If you are disappointed with the small size or asymmetry of your breasts, a breast enlargement surgery may be an excellent option for you. This surgery can increase your bust to the lovely shape and volume that you have always longed for, while restoring confidence in your beautiful feminine figure.

Breast Enlargement Surgery

Breast enlargement can be performed using two different techniques: implants or fat transfer to the breasts. Dr. Shapiro will work with you to determine which technique will best produce your ideal breasts.

Implants

Implants require the creation of a breast pocket for the implant to rest in. This is done by carefully separating the breast tissue, creating an envelope of support for the implant.

There are two different types of implants: silicone and saline. Silicone implants are a triple silicone layered pocket filled with silicone gel. Because of the strength of the material, there is little opportunity for the pockets to rupture or leak.

Saline implants are also silicone pockets, but are filled with a saline (saltwater) solution after they have been inserted into the breast. These implants use a smaller incision. They are also easier to augment than the silicone implant by simply removing or adding saline solution. In the rare case that a saline implant should leak, the saline solution will be easily absorbed into the hostess' body.

Silicone implants are more pricy, but surgeons and patients alike agree that they look and feel more natural than saline. This is especially true for a woman who has little body fat; saline implants may have a wrinkled appearance on the edges of the breasts where the skin is thinner.

If you are worried about an implant rupture, or the appearance of a long scar, then saline is an excellent choice for your peace of mind. If a natural appearance and sensation is on your mind, and a slightly longer scar doesn't bother you, then silicone is the better choice.

Other factors to consider are:

  • location—whether you would like your implant to be placed below the mammary glands and breast tissue or below the pectoral muscle, nearest the chest wall
  • projection—how round you want the profile of the breast to appear
  • incision location—options include around the areola, the underarm, or beneath the breast

Dr. Shapiro will discuss each type of implant, as well as other factors of your surgery during your consultation. He will help you make a decision that is right for you.

Fat Transfer

This revolutionary natural procedure uses the patient's own fat cells for a breast enlargement surgery. In this procedure, the patient gets a 2-for-1 result. Using the VASER liposculpture technology, Dr. Shapiro will remove fat from another troublesome area, such as the abdomen or flanks, then re-insert that fat into the breasts to enlarge them to your ideal size and symmetry. Fat can be inserted above the pectoral muscle and beneath the breast tissue, as well as below the muscle for support and a natural, uplifted appearance.

Fat transfer for breast enlargement is an excellent option for women who prefer a more natural procedure, and like the idea of slimming down another trouble spot on their body.

Breast Enlargement Recovery

Recovering from breast enlargement surgery is easier, faster, and more comfortable than ever before. There will be some discomfort for the first 2-3 days after surgery, but it is easily manageable with pain medication. Dr. Shapiro may prescribe Valium to help maintain pain for the first few days. This will also help the muscles relax, allowing the implants to slide into their intended places.

This time/recovery chart will help you determine which activities you may slowly resume after your breast enlargement surgery:

Duration Post-OperationRecommended Activity Level
2-3 daysRelax and recover
4-5 daysResume normal, non-impact routine
1-2 weeksResume non-impact exercise
4 weeksResume impact exercise
6 weeksResume upper body exercise

Fortunately, breast enlargement surgery has come a long way since it was first introduced and complications are uncommon. Complications or side effects that may occur include asymmetries, bleeding, capsular contracture, deflation, infection, or scarring. In any case of complication, Dr. Shapiro should be contacted immediately.

Breast Enlargement Cost

The cost of your breast enlargement procedure will vary depending on the type of implant you
