Myth #2
Botox has become so popular – I can get it anywhere, now.
Botox Cosmetic must be administered in a qualified, board certified physician’s office – never at a salon, a store, or at someone’s house. When non-qualified personnel perform Botox injections, there is increased risk of serious side effects, even death. Never risk your health!
Myth #3
People become ‘addicted’ to Botox Cosmetic injections.
Botox does not bring about any physiological addiction. Botox Cosmetic will smooth the skin and remove wrinkles, but the results are temporary, lasting from 3-6 months. If a patient is happy with their results, they will need to schedule a repeat treatment. The continued desire to look our best is not considered a medical problem.
Myth #4
Botox injections are toxic to the body.
Botox Cosmetic is derived from the botulinum toxin, an extremely serious form of food poisoning, which can be detrimental to the central nervous system. Botox Cosmetic injections are extremely safe for the body, because the concentration of the toxin is very low, and the injections are pinpointed at a certain muscle group. There is no way for the tiny amount of Botox to spread outside the area of administration.
Myth #5
Injections in the face hurt terribly, especially Botox.
Botox Cosmetic injections are performed with tiny needles, going just under the surface of the skin. Patients typically compare the sensation to that of a mosquito bite. The injections are not painful and do not cause any unpleasant sensations on the face.
